'Murry Street', Sonic Youth's 16th album is a collection of seven songs. The album starts off with a campy guitar melody leading to Thurston Moore's lyrics 'We saw the word's but not the Truth. God bless them all when they speak to you.' on the opening track, 'The Empty Page.' The second track with slow tempo drums and shrilling guitars makes up 'Disconnection Notice.' The album contains two tracks with Kim Gordan on vocals, 'Plastic Sun' reminiscent of 'Goo' & 'EVOL' sound, and with a closing nine minute SY masterpiece entitled 'Sympathy for the Strawberry' complete with feed back and tinkering guitar melodies and intricate, climactic drum work by Steve Shelly. I recently saw Sonic Youth perform live at All Tomorrow's Parties (UCLA) and they won the show over even the most impressive acts such as 'Stereolab', they played a long and powerful set introducing many of the songs which compose their latest album 'Murry Street. The album was recorded in thier self-built Echo Canyon Studio - located on Murray Street in downtown NYC. They are due to tour the US & Canada starting in August. This tour will include a free concert at Central Park’s Summerstage in NYC on Sunday, August 11th and two nights August 24-25 at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre. Get there early!
